What Really Makes You Tick?
10 Questions you should ask yourself when you are thinking of self improvement.
I’m sure at one point or another you have heard the saying “Be All You Can Be”. This doesn’t always mean you need to join the Army. I do just that. I’ve worked hard all my life to get exactly where I am right now. There is no easy road to get here. I just jumped my big ass in the driver’s seat and got ready for my journey. I can say I am somewhat content with my life just the way things are but I will always strive for more. I want something more meaningful for my life. This all work and no play bullshit just isn’t getting it all the time.
When you were a kid, you’ve all had dreams. Doctor, Scientist, Teacher, Business Owner, etc. We should keep those dreams alive. Never give up. Giving up never got anyone anywhere. Do I want to be more? HELL YEAH! Just give me time and I’ll be there. Road blocks have had their way with me for years and I just keep blasting through them as quick as I can.
Some questions you want to ask yourself when you are in your own journey for self-improvement are below. I wrote them down and then brainstormed for the answers. I came up with some answers that were just unrealistic, while others were exactly the answers I needed. Start reading and then really think about your own answers.
- What do I really want? Let a man try to figure out what women want. They’ve been trying for ages and still can’t do it. What do you want to do with your life? Do you have enough time to do them all? Probably not. Life happens. What do you like to do? Find something you are really good at and stick to it. What do you really want? A great job? A big house? A family with 11 kids (NOPE!)? Go after those things. Start manifesting those things.
- Should I really change? What? Change clothes? Career? Living situation? No, You! That is your choice. Nobody else can make it for you. Then you ask, “How should I change?” Improve something about your life to put you in a better position to succeed at achieving your goals. Don’t go changing dumb shit that doesn’t help. Today’s generation has taken change to a whole other level I don’t even want to cover right now. It’s crazy. Bat shit crazy people out here trying to identify as cats. Having a ton of grandkids and hearing stories of people wanting litter boxes in the school bathrooms has blew my mind. WHERE THE HELL ARE THESE CHILDREN’s PARENTS? Stop that shit right where it starts. Start being better parents and stop trying to be their best friend. There’s a change for you.
- What is the bright side of all of this? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Seeing that light is just hard sometimes. The brightest side of undergoing self-improvement, is you will be better suited to fight the challenges or reaching your goals and being a better person while doing it.
- Am I comfortable with what I am doing and the path I am leading? Have you thought about the easiest way to make changes in your own life, or do you just seem to fall into doing things the hard way? I’m definitely the latter. Everything seemed like a struggle. Are you happy with your job? What about the clothes you wear? Do you like your hair style? Are your shoes ugly? All this can be changed when you put in the effort to do so. Don’t try to be like anyone else. There’s enough damn copycats running around. Be genuine and honest with yourself. Be unique. Who cares what anyone thinks? Not me.
- Have I done enough for myself? Oh Girl. This is a question we all ask ourselves. Do you do things you like or is some man telling you how to live your life? Do you buy yourself nice things you want? Don’t let anyone tell you how to spend your money. EVER! Well, except for the electric, gas, and water companies. Maybe the mortgage company, too. The minute you fall for that, its over. Set goals to put back a safety net for rainy days and do something for yourself. You’ll feel so much better.
- Am I happy where I am today? I believe I am. But what about you? Are you truly happy? If not, you need to concentrate on manifesting your destiny. Do you have the education you desire? If not, go back to school. Search for scholarship opportunities, school funding options, etc. Don’t forget about the Pell Grant or any other education grants you are eligible for. Do you want a new job? Go out and apply for jobs. Don’t give up. Be persistent. CALL ALL THE PLACES YOU APPLIED within 1 week if you have not heard from them. ASK to speak to the store manager. Better if you visit the location during normal working hours and speak to the manager up front.
- Am I appealing to the opposite sex? This would really depend on what your sexual orientation is. Me, I could care less. I’m married. He isn’t going anywhere except a casket when he’s gone and hope his spirit floats up instead of down. The reason I asked myself this question is because I knew I had let my health go. I was not appealing. I reached over 300 lbs. I was a fat ass who didn’t care enough about myself to do anything about it. THANK GOD that changed. I’ve tried to make myself more appealing to my husband even though he says my weight didn’t bother him. It bothered me. I’m now down 100 lbs. Go Me! Change the clothing you wear such as from hoodies and sweats to a nice fitting jean or slacks, and the hoodies to a nice blouse. Do that hair too. You can’t go out places looking like you stuck 2 pennies in a light socket. And PLEASE use deodorant.
- How much could I have? You can have whatever you want if you work for it hard enough. Stop sitting around waiting for good things to happen to you. That windfall isn’t coming if all you are doing is sitting on your ass playing on your phone. You have to work for what you want. Nobody is going to give you a better life. Get up and fight and you can have as much as you want.
- What motivates me? If you don’t know what that is, you need to treat life like a big buffet table. Reach in and try a little of everything. Once you find out what those things are that motivates you, get to work. Is it your kids? A better life? You want to work your way up to management or own your own company? Work hard and consistent. You will get there.
- What really makes you tick? Getting up every single day and fighting for what I want. I set attainable goals to start and then change my goals as I go. Once I achieve one, I start on the next. I don’t take a break in between. However, I don’t spend so much time making a living, that I don’t have time to make a life. Figure out what makes you tick.
Remember that your journey to self-improvement doesn’t have to be to make anyone happy except yourself.
